Apps: 19 Goals: 9 Highlight: That hatrick in the San Siro. Lowlight: His tired-looking performance in a disappointing draw v Sunderland at the Lane. Average We Are Tottenham Match Rating: 6.87/10
The shining light in Tottenham's stirring start to the season, Gareth Bale announced himself to the rest of Europe with his hatrick at the home of the European Champions. The Cardiff-born youngster had already picked up where he left off last season with a brace away to Stoke which included a goal of the season contender, and his name was well and truly up in lights after another scintillating performance helped Spurs turn over Inter in the return game at the Lane.
However, Bale has not had it all his own way in a number of league games. Finding it difficult to make an impact in matches where the space in front of him has been shut off and the opposing winger has helped double-mark him, Bale did not have much of an impact in Spurs shock home defeat to Wigan and disappointing draws v Everton and Sunderland. Looking especially tired in the latter game, Spurs fans will hope that Bale's seemingly bottomless energy supplies do not run dry and that he can keep improving to help Tottenham achieve even greater things as the season draws on.
