A Spurs season ticket holder, Matt has been a regular at the Lane since 1979. He's rather opinionated, especially when it comes to Spurs, and doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade (or an ar*ehole an ar*ehole). This has unfortunately led to him getting banned from a number of Spurs forums, so it is just as well that he's now got his own platform on which to mouth off share his thoughts and wisdom with you and I.

Tottenham Hotspur at Stratford. The counter argument.

Let me just start by saying that I would dearly love Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to remain playing matches in Tottenham. I have been attending matches at White Hart Lane since 1978 and my family (well, half of it) resided at Gilpins Grove, where my family home for 25 years was in Enfield.

Ok, now we have that out of the way lets look at some of the “Say No To Stratford” arguments. There have been some blogs that have been published recently in regards to this topic as well as an under attended march. None of these will make a blind bit of difference to the Olympic committee nor will they to Daniel Levy, ENIC, or the other board members of Spurs who have this decision in their hands but as this is a Spurs forum I thought I would take the time to provide some counter balance to these arguments.

Carlo Cudicini: Half-term report

Lowlight: Flapping, and missing, for West Ham's goal at Upton Park.

With such an error-bound first choice keeper as Gomes you would expect Cudicini to have got more opportunities than he has. The fact that he has not says a lot about what the coaching staff at Tottenham may think about him. In his prime with Chelsea he was a superb shot stopper, no doubt about it, but he was playing behind one of the best defences in the league. Carlo has done well to still be playing football at this level, or indeed any level, after his horrendous motorcycle accident and Spurs have shown their class by sticking by him throughout his rehabilitation. Cudicini's first match of the season was in the deeply disappointing home defeat (the only league defeat of 2010) to Wigan. Carlo then played against WBA (1-1) and Werder Bremen in Germany where some hold him partly culpable for Bremen's first goal. His first win in Tottenham's colours this season came in the 3-1 defeat of Wolves. Carlo was then replaced, [temporarily] by Pletikosa in the Carling Cup home defeat to Arsenal, before returning for the away defeat at Upton Park where he came for - and got nowhere near - a corner from which West Ham scored the only goal of the game. Carlo was then replaced by the fit again Gomes before returning for one more match, that being the destruction of the European Champions at The Lane.

For the last two matches that Spurs have played in (Fulham and Newcastle) Carlo has failed to even make the bench, Pletikosa taking his place.
As a second choice keeper you probably can't do much better than Cudicini but he is, on recent form, not the man to take over the number one jersey on a full time basis. For Spurs to really kick on and make a serious challenge for the title then a more reliable goalkeeper may be needed because when it comes to the crunch neither Gomes nor Cudicini have shown the type of form that is required.

Tottenham Hotspur in 2010. Welcome To The Brave New World.

I think it’s fair to say that Spurs supporters would have enjoyed 2010. Great form in the league, some decent cup runs and a team that got stronger with every match. Wins over Chelsea, Arsenal (twice), and Liverpool helped make 2010 a stand out year.

As you can see from the above I'm not a great fan of Gio. When he first came to the club he was vaunted as the next best thing after Zidane Taarabt and you can see where that got us. His performances in pre season matches against the likes of Orient were impressive enough (given that the man only has one foot) and his matches for Mexico would seem to suggest that he has a passing acquaintance with the game of Association Football but sadly his meaningful appearances in first team matches has seen Gio woefully under perform. Ipswich supporters voted him their player of the season when he appeared there on a loan spell (it's also common knowledge that he was the best customer of several of Ipswich's nightclubs too) but having seen the competition at Ipswich I would suggest that Ralph Coates could beat him to that accolade and poor old Ralph is dead and yet is still a better player. Quite frankly he is not good enough. Not for us, nor for any Premiership side. Like Taarabt his level would appear to be Championship or lower. A brave experiment to sign some of the brightest young players from around the globe failed. I wish Gio all the best in the future as long as it does not involve playing for Spurs.

Highlight: Where to start? His most telling contribution was probably against FC Twente at the Lane. Missed a penalty, got a vital goal, and was then sent off!
Lowlight: The aforementioned penalty miss and red card.

There cannot possibly be a Spurs supporter in the land who has not instantly been taken with Rafa. His energy and enthusiasm are infectious and I may boldly suggest that we have not seen a player grace the green playing area of White Hart Lane since one Paul Gascoigne esq. In every match he has played in he has been a focal point of the team. This has allowed others, especially Modric, to flourish. At a reported £8 million this was surely the buy of the summer and Tottenham's best foray in the transfer market, pound for pound, since the signing of Berbatov (I nearly said Bale but the lad has to do it for the entire of this season for me to say that). Seven goals in 12 matches is impressive for anyone let alone someone new to the Premier League, and this is someone who is reportedly not quite fit yet! This could be our Bergkamp signing. We musn't stop there and it's important that Spurs strengthen in the January market but one thing is sure...The club shop will run out of 'V's for the back of replica shirts very shortly if they haven't already.
