Stu is a former season ticket holder, who due to northern location and recent wedding is now "travelling" for a while. His "view from the armchair" will hopefully help shed some light on why the plastic, fair weather fans have the opinions they do.

I'd like to blame my feelings on euphoria after an utterly dominant win. Or maybe on giddyness after a first clean sheet in 10 weeks. Or even on the fact that Adebayor notched his first goals since September after a string of tireless and selfless performances. But no, the reason I am on cloud nine is because I think this Tottenham team could win the league. There, I said it. |

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa Match Preview Monday night sees the return of Premier League football for Spurs and Aston Villa after two very long weeks. It’s an interesting clash between two clubs whose supporters like to think of themselves amongst Britain’s biggest clubs, and I’m afraid I can only agree with one of those sets of fans. |

Apps: 12 Goals: 1 Highlight: Starting against Wolves and United Lowlight: Bit-part role all season Average We Are Tottenham Match Rating: 5.20/10
Dear oh dear, from captain, deadly striker and White Hart Lane hero to forgotten journeyman destined for a loan a move to West Ham! Could it get any worse?!
Keano has unfortunately become a peripheral figure at the Lane this season due to his lack of goals, sharpness and inability to influence a game. Gone are the young legs which helped execute the ideas provided by his sharp mind. Doesn't look like he has a goal in him in any game he plays and looks resigned to a career dwindling to a conclusion over the next couple of years.
He hasn't helped his cause with a pubicised spat with Joe Jordan which compounded his position as 4th choice striker at the club.
Looks destined to move on in January, in a move which will suit both club and player. Thanks for the memories Robbie.

Apps: 26 Goals: 7 Highlight: Hat trick against Young boys which fired us into the Champions League proper. Lowlight: Missing a hatful of chances against Everton. Average We Are Tottenham Match Rating: 6.00/10
An up and down first half of the season for Peter Crouch who continues to flatter to deceive. Interspersed amongst the goals are performances which indicate he isnt of the required standard.
Goals against Inter Milan and Young Boys as well as Werder Bremen, show him as a player who seems to be more useful in European matches than in the bread and butter of the Premier League, where games seem to pass him by. His touch and awareness go from the sublime to the ridiculous and he isnt a player that you would fancy to net in a one on one situation. Having said that, he isnt helped by the inclination Spurs have to 'go long' when he is on the pitch which doesnt play to his strengths at all.
Two major positives that Crouchy has shown are firstly, his defensive ability. For a striker, he does know how to defend and there has been more than one occasion this season where he has helped more defensively than he has in attacking situations (see Villa away for a prime example.) Secondly, and more importantly, he has shown himself to be a highly effective foil for Rafael van der Vaart and has been involved in most of the Dutchman's many memorable goals.
Grade: C As many positives as negatives this season. Will always be a frustrating yet willing player. Comment on this Article HERE. You can register for the forum HERE and the whole thing takes less than a minute.

Apps: 14 Goals: 2 Highlight: Winning goal against the Scum Lowlight: Mix up with William Gallas leading to Gyan's goal against Sunderland Average We Are Tottenham Match Rating: 6.50/10
Younes Kaboul has played a more prominent role for Spurs this season due to the injuries to Michael Dawson, Jonathon Woodgate and Ledley King, although it is probably unfair on him to suggest that he has been merely a stop gap. Some towering performances from the Frenchman have shown people why Harry Redknapp shelled out to bring him back to White Hart Lane in January this year. His pace, power and huge leap have helped him stand out in an ever changing back four this season, although lapses in concentration and penchant for giving away silly and costly fouls have frustrated fans and no doubt team mates and manager as well. Kaboul is developing nicely and is surely learning from the experience of Gallas, Woodgate and King, and has been rewarded for his good form with a call up to the latest French squad. Deserves a lot of credit for his performance and of course the goal at the Emirates.
If Younes can work on his concentration levels and resist the urge to dive in and get to tight to opposition attackers and continue to improve his driving runs from defence and passing from the back then he will surely become a permanent fixture of the Spurs side regardless of who is fot or who is injured. His versatility lends well to this and we may yet see him playing an important role across the back four and even in midfield as the second half of the season approaches.
All in all, improvement required but a promising start to the year. Grade: B Comment on this Article HERE. You can register for the forum HERE and the whole thing takes less than a minute. |
