This Monday, Gareth Bale was crowned Welsh Player of the Year in a ceremony in Cardiff. Now you may not think that being the best player in Wales is really that much of an honour. Especially when we hear that Gooner scum, Aaron Ramsey, who hasn’t played for 6 months because his leg almost fell off won the Welsh Young Player of the Year Award. Bale’s award doesn’t even scratch the surface as to the special, special player Spurs have on our hands. He is quick, strong, skillful and has a left foot to die for. He showed that the mental side of his game is improving with his match winning performances against Chelsea, Arsenal and more recently Stoke City. He has fast become one of our most important players. So much so that is there anyone in the league that you would rather have marauding down out left hand side. He may be unpolished as a left back, but as a left midfielder he is unrivalled. In the Premier League, there is no one that comes close to him. Here is a list of contenders for the crown of Best Left Sided Player in the League: Florent Malouda: Ok, so he scores goals and plays in a successful team. But he drifts in and out of games, isn’t the most consistent of players and relies heavily on Drogba and Anelka to drag other players out of position for him to capitalize. Bale however, creates the mayhem as well as capitalizing on it. Nani: Give over, one or two spectacular goals and the occasional good performance, but he is weak, flashy and dreadfully inconsistent. Bale is twice the player Nani is. Chris Brunt: Not a bad player, great left foot but there is a reason he plays for West Brom. Hatem Ben Arfa: Juries out, great start and now injured long term. Adam Johnson: Bags of potential, but very lightweight and on the periphery of the Man city team at the moment. Not performed consistently in the top flight like Bale has for almost a year now (plus his great start at Spurs in 2007). Matthew Etherington: Not fit to lace Bale’s boots. Decent delivery, but playing for Stoke it’s not hard to hit one of their big lumps heads with a cross! Ashley Young: Quick, skilful but doesn’t have the strength to bully his opposite number in the way Bale does. Was poor against Spurs last week. Stewart Downing: Average player. Produces the occasional highlight, but he is now at the stage of his career where he is no longer ‘potential’ and should be delivering week in week out. Gareth Bale is undoubtedly the best left sided player in the league. He may have some work to do on the defensive side of his game but with the raw abilities he is blessed with, coupled with a single minded determination to succeed, he is on his way to becoming a world great.
